Kenji Imoto 08/23/1938 ~ 10/31/2009 VISTA -- After a short battle with pancreatic cancer, Kenji passed away at his home in Rancho Mirage, California on Saturday, October 31, 2009. He was the youngest of nine children born to Uichi and Tsuru Higashi Imoto on August 23, 1938 in Lindsay, California. During World War II in 1942, his family was placed in a Japanese Internment Camp. Upon their release in 1946 the family settled in Vista, California. Kenji spent his youth working the family farms and graduated from Vista High School. Upon retiring in May 2005 from Janney & Janney Attorney Services, he and Nancy relocated from Costa Mesa, California to the desert in Rancho Mirage. His favorite pastimes were golfing, hunting and especially cooking for family and friends. Kenji was loved by all. He will be truly missed by all of his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years and soul mate, Nancy; his sons, Kevin and Dale; daughter, Jody, and son-in-law, Daniel Gonzalez; and five grandchildren, Brittany, Trevor and Tristen Gonzalez, Joshua Branch and Krista Imoto. His surviving siblings include Yoshio (Kay) Imoto, Yoshiko (Dean) Mizushima, Charlie (Jane) Imoto, Yayoi (Jim) Messersmith. Other surviving family members are brothers-in-law, John Kawano, Alan "Spike"(Beth) Harvey; sisters-in-law, Kinu Imoto, Iris Imoto and Donna (Karl "Barney") Fields; along with numerous nephews and nieces. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, November 12, at 10 am at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 S. El Camino Real, Oceanside, California.
